Waiting on Wednesday

This is a feature started on Breaking the Spine that puts the spotlight on upcoming books. Again, been awhile since I’ve done one of these but if you know me at all, you know I have a deep love for Elise Kova and her books. I definitely want to be talking about her newest work now that the Air Awakens series is officially over. So this week, I want to share The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova!

29844598Title: The Alchemists of Loom (Loom Saga #1)
Authors: Elise Kova
Expected Publication: January 10th, 2017

Synopsis: Her vengeance. His vision.

Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.

Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.

When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.

He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.

First off all, that cover *heart eyes* If that doesn’t make you want to read it then I don’t know what will because it’s amazing! Second of all, it sounds so good and I’d expect nothing less from her. (Ps. if you haven’t read the Air Awakens series yet, get on that!!) And third, Elise is hosting this really cool game right now that has to do with the guilds in The Alchemists of Loom. You can find out what guild you are in (through a Buzzfeed quiz here), earn points and get super awesome rewards. You should definitely check it out here at: The Guild Games!

Waiting on Wednesday

This is a feature started on Breaking the Spine that puts the spotlight on upcoming books. Now I haven’t done a Waiting on Wednesday in quite awhile, even with my little hiatus I didn’t post them very often. But I couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to talk about one of my most anticipated reads of the year from one of my favourite authors. So today I’ll be featuring Metaltown by Kristen Simmons!

28118037Title: Metaltown
Authors: Kristen Simmons
Expected Publication: September 20th, 2016
Publisher: Tor Teen

SynopsisMetaltown, where factories rule, food is scarce, and hope is in short supply.

The rules of Metaltown are simple: Work hard, keep your head down, and watch your back. You look out for number one, and no one knows that better than Ty. She’s been surviving on the factory line as long as she can remember. But now Ty has Colin. She’s no longer alone; it’s the two of them against the world. That’s something even a town this brutal can’t take away from her. Until it does.

Lena’s future depends on her family’s factory, a beast that demands a ruthless master, and Lena is prepared to be as ruthless as it takes if it means finally proving herself to her father. But when a chance encounter with Colin, a dreamer despite his circumstances, exposes Lena to the consequences of her actions, she’ll risk everything to do what’s right.

In Lena, Ty sees an heiress with a chip on her shoulder. Colin sees something more. In a world of disease and war, tragedy and betrayal, allies and enemies, all three of them must learn that challenging what they thought was true can change all the rules.

An enthralling story of friendship and rebellion, Metaltown will have you believing in the power of hope.

First, can we talk about how amazing Kristen Simmons is? I loved her Article 5 trilogy & The Glass Arrow and she’s always been so nice on social media! Second, let’s talk about the cover because it’s beautiful and amazing and I can’t wait for it to be on my shelf! And lastly, that synopsis had me hooked in the first few lines. I AM READY FOR THIS BOOK, and you should be too!

Ps. Can we also talk about how cool this button I got from Kristen for Metaltown is? Because I love it.

Waiting on Wednesday + Blurb

This is a feature started on Breaking the Spine that puts the spotlight on upcoming books.
For this Waiting on Wednesday I’m changing it up a bit! I’ll be featuring The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury. I was actually able to read a sampler of the book from Netgalley  (here) and I thought I’d share with you my thoughts on it.

Title: The Forbidden Wish
Author: Jessica Khoury
Expected Publication: February 23rd, 2016
Publisher: Razorbill

Synopsis: She is the most powerful Jinni of all. He is a boy from the streets. Their love will shake the world…

When Aladdin discovers Zahra’s jinni lamp, Zahra is thrust back into a world she hasn’t seen in hundreds of years — a world where magic is forbidden and Zahra’s very existence is illegal. She must disguise herself to stay alive, using ancient shape-shifting magic, until her new master has selected his three wishes.

But when the King of the Jinn offers Zahra a chance to be free of her lamp forever, she seizes the opportunity—only to discover she is falling in love with Aladdin. When saving herself means betraying him, Zahra must decide once and for all: is winning her freedom worth losing her heart?

As time unravels and her enemies close in, Zahra finds herself suspended between danger and desire in this dazzling retelling of Aladdin from acclaimed author Jessica Khoury.

First, let me just mention how freaking gorgeous this cover is! Second, I’m pretty sure I need this entire book right now, this was absolutely amazing. I love Jessica Khoury’s writing style, it’s enchanting. Her imagery draws you in with it’s beautiful and whimsical prose. I don’t really know the original story of Aladdin just the basics, so The Forbidden Wish is a completely new world for me. The fact that the Jinni is a very strong and intriguing female main character with a questionable past is perfect. Just from this sneak peek, I can already see that Khoury is going to bring us into a world with strong characters and whimsical tales. I cannot wait to be able to read this entire novel.

Also, just throwing this out there that Jessica has a pre-order offer going on right now! So be sure to check out this book~

Waiting on Wednesday!

This weeks WoW book is Air Awakens by Elise Kova!

Title: Air Awakens
Authors: Elise Kova
Expected Publication: August 27th, 2015
Publisher: Silver Wing Press

Synopsis: A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

First of all, the cover is so gorgeous! Second, Elise is super nice and awesome (you can find her on Twitter @EliseKova). And third, that synopsis had me at “A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…” ! I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book so far and I can’t wait to read it. Have you heard of the Air Awakens? Have you read it? Want to read it?

Waiting On Wednesday.

This is a feature started on Breaking the Spine that puts the spotlight on upcoming books. My third WoW book is Zeroes by Scott Westerfeld!

Title: Zeroes
Authors: Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan & Deborah Biancotti
Expected Publication: September 29th, 2015
Publisher: Simon Pulse

Synopsis: Ethan, aka “Scam,” has a way with words. When he opens his mouth, whatever he wants you to hear comes out. But Ethan isn’t just a smooth talker. He has a unique ability to say things he doesn’t consciously even know. Sometimes the voice helps, but sometimes it hurts – like now, when the voice has lied and has landed Ethan in a massive mess. So now Ethan needs help. And he needs to go to the last people who would ever want to help him – his former group of friends, the self-named “zeros” who also all possess similarly double-edged abilities, and who are all angry at Ethan for their own respective reasons. Brought back together by Scam’s latest mischief, they find themselves entangled in an epic, whirlwind adventure packed with as much interpersonal drama as mind-bending action.

So this isn’t a well known fact because I’ve only just joined the community but I absolutely love Scott Westerfelds work. From the moment I picked up Uglies years ago, I was hooked. He is one of the few authors who I’ve read multiple different books from. I loved the Uglies series, the Midnighters trilogy and the Leviathan series. Those are some of the absolute best books I’ve ever read. So when I found out about Zeroes I was so excited. It sounds so awesome and that cover is wonderful! I admit, I haven’t read anything by the other authors but I have high hopes for Zeroes.
